We serve you at a distance in Pyhä:

A solid hotel & restaurant professional, Raili, or otherwise know as Raippa (whip). This nickname given to her by colleagues tells everything you need to know and more. Moved to the hustle and bustle of Sodankylä as a young woman from a small Lappish village, she made a detour around the local fells landing her way back to the roots of her career at Hotelli Sodankylä almost 10 years ago.
Raili is our efficient mood booster. She gets her endless energy from local nature paths, her family, her friends and the sparkling Summer nights of Hanko, in Southern Finland. Our manager knows all the best restaurants and places to be in Finland and always stays up to date, no chance of slowing down.
Raili often has her phone glued to her ear and we all know to repeat this sales cannon’s answer to the phone in unison at a quick tempo: ”Hotel Sodankylä, Raili Karvonen-Willman”.

From the nurturing arms of a little village in Sodankylä, this man dove into the sweet depths of kitchen pots and pans. And you can’t say he doesn’t know his stuff. Calm, certainty, smiles and thought out ideas – some of the things Tuomas offers us as a colleague. May we present to you our new head of kitchen.
Tuomas has extensive experience from surrounding areas’ kitchens and his latest steps were as head of kitchen amidst the high tourist season of Rovaniemi – capital of Lapland. From the Lappish capital flying back to his home village, we we’re really happy to have Tuomas be a part of our Peerâ family. The change of our kitchen boss was smooth and decisive.
Let’s do a little quiz! What do we get when we mix friendliness, helpfulness, a good sense of humour, a sure grip on things, tasty cooking, good ideas and good written and numeric abilities? This is what Tuomas is made of. During his free time we don’t see him that much, so let us know if you spot him somewhere.
Sodnkylä’s gossip forum hasn’t yet made any scandal articles about him, so maybe we should investigate the wears and tears of his dancing shoes’ soles a little more closely?

Riitta is Hotel Sodankylä’s veritable Grand Lady – she has a work history in our hotel of more than 30 years. She’s not easily thrown off by small difficulties and neither will she leave her colleagues or employer in a sticky situation – work is always done until the end. During her history at the hotel, she has seen all kinds of phases and her memories of the place is rather popular among people who are interested in the subject.
Her love for this activity and making results, and above all her connection to customers are enriching things in the working life of Riitta. You will often meet her on very early morning walks on nearby nature paths and when corona has been defeated – in exotic destination enjoying the sun. Travelling and experiencing new things is a passion of hers.
Riitta doesn’t budge in front of minor difficulties, she just says ”well that’s how it is” and get’s to work!

Like the first rays of sun, our solid morning sun steps at work and prepares a fresh and copious breakfast for our customers! Soile came to us a few years back and soon enough reached a respected position as the responsible caretaker of our breakfast. Even reception duties just fly by when she’s at work!
Cleanliness, vigour, punctuality, quality and calm are common virtues for Soile. As a colleague you will get sensible suggestions from her way and she has a tendency to sniff out the newest trends and likes proposing some new kicks to our everyday life.
With a great life experience passing by Paris as a horse and dog trainer to her current challenge as the head of her own dog training company takes up most of Soile’s free time. You will most often of course meet her on the nature paths with her adorable dogs. With her teachings all pet owners can give a sigh of relief – you will always get help when needed. You will most often hear her say in a very Finnish way: ”well it could be much worse”!

Marko, chef
Road between Sodankylä and Kemijärvi is so long (100km) that it is only in 2022 that we got this guy to be a part of our kitchen crew. But as they say, good things are worth waiting for – no traveller has to starve in this man’s care.
He arrives at work without making a sound, gives his colleagues a calm look mouthing a few essential words – and for sure he succeeds to get a smile on his colleagues’ faces after all. With patience and a sense of humour he carries out his shifts until the end, but asks the same fair touch and good team spirit from all his colleagues.
There are two things we can’t really separate from him, the other one is quality and the other Quality. But we will let him keep both this time.
Marko is not a guy you might have met on the airport of Barcelona or the market square of Kabul but you might cross paths with him next to a nearby forest stream in the depths of the woods. And his stories from Sarajevo and Bosnia-Herzegovina are without comparison. During the coffee break he might take out a wild card and even tell about a trip to the South of Finland. A natural traveller for sure?

Amanda, receptionist / waitress
Undoubtable star-quality of the service domain with a smile so profound it must come from the heart. “You shouldn’t get destabilised because of small things” – maybe I heard this coming from her mouth once – or is it just that her way of working is so sturdy that she carries this bubble of thought above her head at work?
We recruted here somewhere in the crossing of a few roads nearby the hotel, accompanied by flower pots and a planting shovel. You should be open to all kinds of markets when putting up your recruitment office. With your arms in dirt until you elbows, there can’t really be anything else than good decisions.
The hectic atmosphere is kept up during her free time by her lovely and well-spoken children and her very ambitious studying. It’s a pleasure to see that Amanda wants to take all she can out of her studies – she must be a tough nut for the teachers – in a good sense.
As a colleague she brings joyful humour, precise questions, probelm solving and a trustworthy family memmber to the table. First impressions don’t let you down, it only continues. As a mother of three, her commands are hard enough even in the hustle and bustle of the bar. So don’t even start with her.

Tiia is sure to leave you with a song stuck in your head!
With her wrists made of iron and her service attitude high in the clouds, this lady eternally charged by the sun came into our life from the Central West Coast of Finland to spice up our life in Sodankylä. Travel guide, hotel-restauration professional, manager – she has a long experience behind her accompanied by legendary stories. Life is her passion.
You can choose the language and it won’t be long that Tiia will speak it with laughter and her hands waving in the air.
Learning form things and people will probably never end in her case and rejoicing our customers and colleagues with her personality will make everyday life a luxury. Teamwork has unprecedented power and making good go around is the best deed to be passed around in our Peerâ family. In order to create all this positivity, Tiia charges her batteries at her cottage and reading books. Come and chat with Tiia and you soon might find yourself on our regular clients’ list!

Tia, housekeeping, SOL Services
As the first rays of the sun hit the breakfast room of Peerâ, our sunny Tia from SOL services arrives in her yellow attire to take care of our guests’ comfort. The seamless partnership between our reception and housekeeping presents itself at its best as a quality result for our guests to enjoy.
Abundant laughter, cheerful greetings and and eye contact, this is what you’ll be encountered with with Tiia. No matter what’s the situation facing her when she arrives at work, Tiia will just state that there shouldn’t be any problem. All the notes she leaves on the housekeeping list could indicate that Tia could have opportunities pursuing an academic career as well. It’s always a pleasure to receive clear reports and be sure that once we agree on something, we are sure it’s done!
Maybe this zen-balance comes from charging her batteries in a lovely cottage atmosphere during her free time! Ask Tia?

From time to time you might cross paths with our Tuomas jr. If not live at our reception, then you might at least meet his sympathetic eyes on our social media channels. Everything seemed to work out with him so we grabbed him even to our publicity photoshoot.
This guy is ready film star material and he made his entrance like Bogart or his likes. As a job applicant he passed right in front of at least 5 applications with his personal and friendly touch by coming directly to the hotel to see us. Here’s a good example that you don’t work necessarily with a domain’s school diploma, as the right attitude can take you far without it.
That what this guy can’t do, he is ready to work out and it seems that he is used to taking the most demanding route to get there. Clearly he enjoys working at the bar and making cocktails is his favourite, let’s see what his next study ambitions will bring! As a colleague he is sure not to get stampeded by conversations with a hoard of ladies – the humour flies and stories stream. Really such a nice guy, come say hi!
